One of Canada’s most valuable resources is crude oil. With that in mind, a lady named Janet Holder found a solution to make the best of it. She thought of creating a $6.5 billion twin pipeline that would be able to export petroleum running from Northern Alberta, through northern BC to the port of Kitimat, BC at the head of Douglas channel, named the Northern Gateway Pipeline. The Northern Gateway Pipeline needs to meet 209 conditions provided by the National Energy Board and Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency. One of the biggest concerns is the route and how it’ll impact the environment and wildlife. After carefully reviewing and planning for the last decade, a route has been developed that runs 1,177 kilometres with 70% of it travelling through previously disturbed areas. This pipeline will enable Canada to sell its valuable oil into the Pacific Rim at market value as opposed to selling it to the USA for discounted prices.
