Nowadays, with advancements in technology, communication becomes much more convenient. However, during the time when the technologies were not as efficient as now, there are gaps in communication which lead people to a lot of misunderstanding. Nothing But The Truth, a documentary novel written by Avi, is about a boy named Philip who wants to join the track team, but gets a bad grade from Miss Narwin, his English teacher and homeroom proctor. Therefore, they start a series of conflicts. Throughout the whole conflict, Philip’s parents miss a huge part of the “true” story, which leads to an even bigger conflict between Philip and Miss Narwin. Philip’s parents definitely do something wrong by supporting Philip. Their support causes his teacher …show more content…

The information rapidly spread all over in the country with newspaper and radios. Many people send message to Miss Narwin to claim that how bad a teacher she is. “On behalf of our membership we strongly condemn your suppression of patriotism in the American School System.” (p 130) Even though most of people are saying bad thing about Miss Nawin, there are still some people supporting Miss Narwin. “Miss Narwin. Everybody knows it. She’s so fair.” (p. 149) Moreover, Miss Narwin is trying to be a fair and helpful teacher that even when Philip broke some rules during the homeroom and get an awful grade in her class. She still doesn’t want to give up on Philip. “I don’t want to give up on him yet...He’s really a nice boy.” (p. 75) However, as the time passes on, Miss Narwin can no longer handle the burden and pressure that people add on her, so she choose to resign. “I am going to Florida. To be with my sister. And her husband… You’ve resigned, then.” (p. 175) In addition, the newspaper not only affect Miss Narwin, It also affect the reputation of the school. Thus, it fail the proposal of the budget. “Harrison School Elections.
