NT Wright aimed to understand and define the mindset of Jesus. In his approach, he utilizes two key vocab words: worldview and mindset. A worldview “applies to the perspective of a society” and a mindset “applies to the perspective of a particular individual” (Powell, 204). To determine each of these aspects, Wright studied four fundamental features: characteristic stories, fundamental symbols, habitual praxis, and answers to a set of basic questions (who are we? where are we? what’s wrong? what’s the solution? what time is it?). Through this strategy, Wright set himself apart from other historical studies of Jesus by reconstructing not only what Jesus said and did, but also what he believed. Instead of explaining the underlying motives that shaped Jesus into who he came to be, his work focused on determining the historical agendas and intentions of the actions attributed to Jesus. In summary, Wright believed that Jesus thought they were the people of Israel chosen for the sake of the world. They were in exile, but soon this bondage was about to be over.
