I am going to explain the various factors that influence the performance of a website. I am going to include a comparison with ‘user-side’ and ‘sever-side’ factors that can influence website performance.
Clients - Machines used to connect to those services
Clients direct their requests to a specific software server running on the overall server machine
Servers- Machines that provide services to other machines
Have software on them that lets them provide one or more services on the Internet - web server, an e-mail server & an FTP server
A web server is hosting websites
When a web page is rendered, most of the time is tied up in downloading all the components in the page. Images, stylesheets, scripts, flash, etc. each of these components require separate requests. Reducing the number of components in turn reduces the number of http requests
