The brain is one of the most complex structures made for acquiring, processing, and storing information as well as constructing thoughts. However, most recent advanced studies on the development and functions of the brain have revealed that the brain isn’t just a “device” designed for the purpose of storing information or constructing thoughts, it is more sophisticated and complicated than it is ever thought to be. In this week’s videos, the opinions of three specialists differ to some extent from how brain evolve, function, and its purpose. Therefore, their ideas enlarged my views of how different purposes the brain serves.

In the video “Real Reasons for the brain” Wolpert (n.d) explained that the brain was evolved to yield “adaptable and complex movements”. The perceptions of the surrounding world are dependent on how the sensory and memory identify movements going around.

He emphasized that brain possesses a very powerful interconnect system which can reconstruct the past, construct the present and make possible prediction of future basing on prior knowledge. In this view, the hippocampus plays a vital role in the reconstruction of life events and navigation in various social worlds. Again, Nadel provided an example of how brain can bring changes on the way one learns, mentioning the study on kids that goal orientation makes good results. Both Nadel and Medina share insights of the impact of affective cognitive on the one’s productive learning. If one is emotionally stable at home he/she can do well at school.

All discussions overlapped at some points and diverged in very few, but the lecturers provided deeper glimpse of how brain is able to perform different tasks and how relevant it is the construction and reconstruct of events captured from outdoor worlds.
