192.168.0.1- A Common IP Address for Routers

1. Understanding 192.168.0.1
A Gateway IP address which enables Internet Connection Sharing to share Internet connection.The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) is the global organization that manages IP addresses. It initially defined a type of IP address called IP version 4 (IPv4). This type is a 32-bit number usually expressed as four numbers separated by a decimal point – for example, 192.168.0.1. Each decimal must have a value between 0 and 255, which means that the IPv4 system can accommodate about 4 billion unique addresses. Its a private address as defined by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, commonly used by Netgear and D-Link routers though the network address is not granted to the Netgear and D-Link companies exclusively, however as other major router manufacturers are free to choose to use same default address if desired. Firstly, this address is for the router’s initial setup & also it is used to identify network router to configure the Internet connection, security settings, or generally conduct network administrator functions.
