Backing up your company’s data is very important. Making sure it stays secure is the most important part of backing it up. Whether you are choosing open source software or commercial, you need to make sure it is the best option for your company. Which type of server is going to be used, dedicated or service provider? Where are the backups going to be stored, hard disks, tape media, or somewhere else? Who exactly is responsible for verifying the backups and restoring the data? Why does the data on the back up need to be encrypted?
An open source software that I would recommend for backing up the data is Backupninja. It is a lightweight backup system with full and incremental backup levels. It backs up disks, DVDs, CDs, and ISO images. It has encrypted DataStream and encrypted remote backups.
The commercial Linux backup software that I would recommend is NetVault. It is used for both backup and recovery. It is designed for both physical and virtual environments, reduces the possibility of errors, supports NAS devices, and will backup to tape or disk.
