data collection and the way which the data is processed ,the individual/participant must be treated fairly they are to be informed if there data is being subjected or being processed by a data controller . To ensure patient data is protected patient record will be kept in a safe cabinet and will remain in hospital, encrypted USB data memory stick (holding audio files and other documents) will not have any information that will identify the patient such as patients NHS number, registration number, date of birth, home address and name. Pseudonyms /code and letter will be used instead of patent names (Parr 2011). Any record saved on the computer will be password protected and data will be destroyed (physically shredded/ erased from the computer) within 2-3 years. Protecting the patient from harm, maintain confidentiality and having a referral procedure or plan in place if participants becomes emotionally or physically distress in an interview is a matter that will have to be planned for research involving human participants, this matter will not affect my research as data will be collected from secondary source /data base and not directly from the participant. Both groups have refractory epilepsy within the same region more specifically are all treated and managed at the same hospital (Queen Elizabeth Hospital) .The sample is randomly collected via the informatics team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and contain patients with refractory epilepsy t between 2003 and 2012.
