1. What is the purpose for having a passivation layer on metal replacement components?
The purpose of a passivation layer on metal replacement is that it can help protect the metal components and by preventing immediate exposure of the electrochemical surroundings.

2. In your own words, what is the purpose of this study?
The purpose of the study is to observe levels metal (Cr, Co, and Ti) after a complete hip anthroplasty with the use of a Ti modular neck system.

3. What is meant by MoM and MoP?
MoM stands for metal on metal. MoP stands for metal on polyethylene.

4. Summarize figure 2 in your own words. Do you agree with the conclusions drawn? Why or why not?
Figure 2 is showing the levels of Chromium in MoP and MoM over two years.

Summarize figure 3 in your own words. Do you agree with the conclusions drawn? Why or why not?
Figure 3 is showing the levels of Cobalt in MoP and MoM over two years. MoP shows not a lot of increase while MoM shows extensive growth in the amounts of Cobalt. I suppose I would agree. Because this was compared to another study which resulted in similar results.

6. Summarize figure 4 in your own words. Do you agree with the conclusions drawn? Why or why not?
Figure 4 shows the levels of Ti after two years. Both MoP and MoM experienced minimal rises in the levels of Ti after one year and two years, even though MoM had slightly lower levels than MoP. I would have guessed there would be more titanium than what was observed being that what they received was an all Titanium modular neck system.

7. What is something you can think of that would have been nice to include in the paper regarding the metal ions?
I would have liked to receive more background on the metal ions, how these metal ions affect the body, the pros and cons of having the low or high levels of metal ions in the

For MoMs Breaks, Loss, Gains and MoP gain there was a slight increase after one year, more of an increase after two years and it decreased slightly when measured in the fifth year. The others like, translocation for MoM was increased after year one, the same for the second year and was increased the fifth year. MoP experienced differenced for the translocation, breaks and loss. Translocation stayed the same after year one, increased at year two and increased year five. Breaks increased year one, increased year two and increased year five as well. Loss increased after the first year increased after the second year and stayed the same year five.

End t6. In figure 5, how do you know there is a strong correlation between the levels of chromium and chromosomal abnormalities?
The graph is linear, as the levels of chromium increase the levels of chromosomal abnormalities also increases. There is a stronger correlation between MoM and the levels of chromium and number of chromosomal abnormalities.

7. Was there any correlation between cobalt and chromosomal abnormalities?
For MoM there was not a strong correlation for abnormalities. For MoP there was a strong
