This is information that comes from within the business. The information is privatised and will be accurate. This is because it can take the form of sales figures, personnel records, customer records, and financial documents such as trading and profit and loss accounts. This information is important as it allows the company to track records of money and staff allowing them to make decisions such as business ideas of new products and track staff attendance and work rates. Furthermore they can track production standards and rates and can change them accordingly. This information plays a key role in the workplace, it is the flow of information between employees and staff and allows thongs such as finance and internal problems to be communicated effectively.

Data collection can range from anything from simple notes to an ordered data collection protocol. The goal for all data collection is to capture quality evidence that results in good data analysis in order to build credible answers for posing questions. Data storage is key when protecting documents files and work. Also it entails thing such as personal information of clients and customers under the data protection act. This means it must be secure with only the necessary people allowed access. If data is lost or stolen the companies can face legal claims and may be left out of pocket and set back if important documents are lost.
Manipulation:
Data manipulation is the process of changing data to make it easier to read or sort and make more organized. Examples of this are putting things in alphabetical in order to make it easier to locate specific files and documents.
Retrieval:
Data retrieval is the process of identifying and extracting data from a database based on a query in-putted by a user or programme, retrieved data is then stored in a file, printed or viewed on screen.
