1) I would respond by saying, “ You make a great point, but there still has to be someone to impute the numbers into the computer, double check the work, make sure everything balances, and make sure they are in compliance with policies and laws. Also, there is a cycle that accountants have as their daily routines which is analyze transactions, journalize, post, prepare unadjusted trial balances, adjust, prepare adjusted trial balance, prepare statements, close, prepare post closing trial balance, and reverse (optional). Therefore, knowing this cycle there has to be an accountant to understand this cycle and has to be able to input it into the computer and have be correct. 3) My thoughts on this case regarding Dean Field is that it is completely unethical, immoral, and can extremely affect the retail shop. Yes, he is able to correct it when he gets back from his vacation, but that will greatly affect the retail shop when he is gone by their shrink, paper work being wrong, any future paperwork wrong, and will make everything a complete mess. Also, if his boss finds out what he did, Dean needs to think about how it may affect his reputation with his career as he just falsified reports.
