The nurse intern program is a great opportunity to dive in the world of nursing for a hands-on experience. I would love to have this chance to better the skills I have already learned and be able to gain new skills. My hope is to become more confident in my skills and to not be nervous when performing them on patients. I have wanted to be a nurse since I was a freshman in high school and to have the opportunity to spend my summer working in the hospital setting and getting to learn from nurses one on one would be amazing. While I have already learned so much through my two years in nursing classes at Milligan, the amount of knowledge that would be gained on the floor is exponential. Being able to explore a specific specialty in the nursing spectrum would teach me the ins and outs of the floor, the location of things, and how this area does specific protocols. In our clinical rotations, we are at a different unit every week, so we are never able to neither get comfortable on a unit nor get to learn where things are, or the different ways things are done compared to other units in the hospital. To be able to get a good understanding and knowledge of a specific unit would be very valuable in my teaching. This program would help my critical thinking skills in a hospital setting with real world problems, real patients, and how to prioritize it all. As nurses, you sometimes have to make quick decisions and critical thinking skills are very important to have. I want to be able to think of ways to help my patient when I get their labs back or hear the report from the previous shift or if they become unstable in anyway. This is a key part of being a nurse and I would be able to start honing this skill now rather than working on it through the 2 days a week in clinical and eventually when I
