Being part of a nursing organization is a great way to stay up to date with the most current nursing practice. They provide a wide range of resources and evidence based practice to ensure you are delivering top notch nursing care. Two organizations that have gained interest from me include the American Nurses Association (ANA) and the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). Both organization offer great opportunities and could greatly benefit my career as an ICU nurse. The American Nurses Association represents the nations entire nursing population and is the voice of approximately 3.1 million nurses nationwide. This particular association as helped advance the nursing profession by participating in developing high standards of nursing practice, promoting the economic and general welfare of nurses, influencing congress and regulatory agencies on health care issues that directly affect nurses and the general public, and lastly continue to enhance a positive and realistic view of nursing. The ANA has also taken a leading role in developing policy initiatives that pertain to the health care reform.
