As part of the medical history the pulse and respiration rates should be taken and documented in the patient’s chart. For an adult the normal pulse rate is 60-100 beats per minute (BPM) and the respiration rate range is from 12 to 20 per minute. It is important to know that both, the respiration and the pulse rates can be slightly higher for women. Values that move away from normal should make us want to investigate and ask questions that can help us identify any existing condition.

However, I am glad we got the reviewed copy of the steps for these procedures since we are having our first competency on Wednesday. I need to review and memorized them well now, so I do not have to worry about this in the future. The medical process was very challenging since it was my first time. While doing it, I felt there were something I was missing and I had to go back and check my notes. At the beginning, I did not know where to get the medical history chart, or how to add the habit history into the patient chart. I did not have time to fill out the pharmacological data; but I have the names of the medications my patient is taking and I will have it ready for Wednesday. This is a very important part of the medical history because is what will give us an insight about any possible contraindications, dental implication and adverse reaction there might be with any particular medication a patient is taking. This information will help us create a treatment plan that is best for our patient, taking in consideration their needs. In general, the pharmacological data should include the drug name, recommended dosage, patient’s dosage, indications, contraindications, dental implications, and adverse reaction. Also, the referenced used and page number should be included. I love that we can look up the most common medications and have all these information ready in a thumb drive, in
