Lakoff (1996) sets two basic family models: the Nurturant Parent (NP) model that describes Democrats morality and the Strict Father (SF) model for Conservatives morality. The NP model revolves around the idea that every family member caring for and being cared for by every other family member, and gives priority to nurturance over discipline. The NP model described as characteristic of left-wing values. This model involves a shared and horizontal power structure in which members of a family work shoulder to shoulder as one unit. The main values are caring and empathy, and so growth is stimulated through nurturance. NP model assumes that children are born good and can be made better. Parents should look after their children and educate
