In sports performance, nutrition is one of the most important elements. In fact, some consider it the most important part of training for sports and how well you perform in the sport as well. Finding the right balance of micronutrients and macronutrients can be the difference between first place and the last place, scoring a touchdown or being tackled, becoming a starter in basketball or watching from the bench,etc. Many aspects of an athlete's performance within a game is heavily linked to what he or she eats and so athletes should therefore take nutrition just as serious as training if not more serious. It can be difficult, especially for younger athletes, to realize the importance of nutrition until an older age. The topic is not stressed as much as it should be whilst in middle school sports or high school sports. Athletes are always given an abundant amount of information on supplements. It is hard to know what is right and what is wrong, who to believe and who not to believe. So many questions arise when the talk of supplementation comes into conversation. Not entirely all supplements are bad. Some do have beneficial effects for an athlete’s performance, but so many of them do not have the same positive effect on performance and are certainly not all free from substances that are harmful or either banned. There has to be more of an effect to find new ways to enhance performance through food and less of a reliance on supplements. With the emergence of new information on this research topic on a daily basis, athletes should be given the information to equip them to be able to discern a beneficial supplement from one that would potentially be detrimental for their health in the long
