3) Inquiries and Case Reviews
Inquiries and case reviews are very important and this was shown in the Lambing report which brought in the Children Act 2004, after the death of Victoria Climbie. Serious failings were shown in how her case was handled and recommendations were made and put into practice on how child protection is handled. There are now closer working relationships between all relevant parties.
4) Data Protection
The school complies with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998, regarding obtaining, storing and using of personal data. Information is only shared with outside agencies on a need to know basis and with the consent of the parents/carers except in cases relating to safeguarding children or criminal activity. If information is shared without parent/carers consent, a clear record is kept on the child’s file, clearly stating the reasons.
Parents can ask to see records relating to their child, but will have no access to information regarding any other children.
All information regarding a child is only shared on a need to know basis within the school.
5) Child Centred and Safeguarding Approach
Within a school a child centred and safeguarding approach is absolutely essential in protecting the child and the adults who work in a close environment. Children have the right to come to school and be safe in all aspects from health to safety and a caring
