Nwoye In Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart

Achebe in order to make the novel more interesting more fitting he made Okonkwo's son Nwoye, antithesis from him in a way for Okonkwo to be ashamed when he was just a new blood of the clan. Nwoye unlike Okonkwo was giving a opportunity to live the wealthy life but his father was the Alpha in his life and you know what they say when the beta or the omega wants to take over the Alpha puts them in their place quick which is what's happening in their family. In Nwoye eyes his perspective is antithesis to Okonkwo for the reason that he has sense of reasoning and real emotions that states he is a human being. We can see the difference between father and son rapidly during the first 100 pages. The narrator quotes “Nothing pleased nwoye now more than to be sent for by his mother or another if his father's wives to go so one of those difficult and masculine task in the home, like splitting wood, or pounding food.”(pg.52) From this quote we can clearly tell that Nwoye resembles with grandfather Unoka in many way up to date that they don't like to do masculine work, don't like to …show more content…
When Nwoye uncle got a chance to talk to him, they had a conversation and they both quoted “I'm one of them” replied Nwoye. “How is your father” Obierika said. “I don’t know. He is not my father.” (pg.144). From this quoted Nwoye was referring to Okonkwo as not being his father since now he is fighting for other purpose and living a life how he always wanted to live with no restrictions and not having someone decide your fate or how you are going to live your life.
