The film O Brother, Where Art Thou, directed by Joel and Ethan Coen and starring George Clooney as Everett, John Turturro as Pete Hogwallop, and Tim Blake Nelson as Delmar O’Donnell in 1930s Mississippi, is a loose interpretation of Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey. In the film, we meet Everett, Pete, and Delmar as they work in a prison yard from which they escape soon thereafter. Following their escape, they are faced with several obstacles as they attempt to return home. The film contains certain aspects that directly relate to The Odyssey and is overall a well formed interpretation of it. For example, most of the people they encounter along their journey are clear interpretations of the people/monsters that Odysseus faces in his journey.
