On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into a law, immensely changing the format of healthcare in the United States. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or Obamacare, is a long, complex piece of legislation that strives to reform the healthcare system by providing more Americans with Affordable Quality Health Insurance and by curbing the growth in healthcare spending in the U.S. As of 2014, the number of Americans without health insurance has been reduced by about 25 percent — or eight million to 11 million people (Sanger-Katz, Margot). This reduction has shown the effectiveness of the ACA and its ability to reach its goal; therefore improving the the quality of the American health insurance industry. The Affordable Care Act’s improvement upon the quality healthcare in the United States is predicated on its magnification of the amount of uninsured Americans that can receive high quality health insurance.

The ACA has positively changed the healthcare industry by augmenting the amount of uninsured Americans that are eligible to receive high quality health insurance. These people now have the opportunity to afford treatment and prescription drugs; therefore, being able to maintain healthy lifestyle and contribute to society. With time, the Affordable Care Act will have an immensely positive effect on health insurance and continue to benefit the majority of Americans.
