Introduction: The topic I will be talking about is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. This disorder is about the mind and actions that are caused by severe anxiety that the disorder brings upon its victims, these actions are completed in order to try and suppress the anxiety. Everyone experiences random and strange thoughts. Most people are able to release them from their consciousness and carry on with life. For people with OCD these random thoughts do not leave their mind and they are like a brains junk mail. Having OCD is like having no filter for spam, the junk mail keeps coming and it will not stop. Family therapy promotes understanding of the disorder which helps them cope with it better and also gaining the ability to help the person suffering OCD. Group therapy is a great way to have several individuals who are undergoing the same mental illness to rid isolation and to provide support. Alcohol does temporarily reduce anxiety but as the alcohol wears off it causes it's very own anxiety symptoms. Conclusion: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is neurological and affects many people. It is usually found for the first time in childhood to young adult years. OCD causes people to have repetitive behaviours which are also known as compulsions and obsessions which tie in together to help the persons anxiety levels go down by performing rituals. OCD can be categorized in four parts, which are Checking, Contamination, Hoarding and Ruminations. Millions of people suffer OCD and only around 10 percent reach out for help to try and overcome the disorder. They are no exact causes but only theories of OCD being a familial disorder. The disorder can be treated through therapy and a few changes to everyday life. OCD is not a disorder that is easy to live with, it works you to the ground and ruins people's lives, OCD is something that needs to be dealt with and not taken
