Obstacles In The Most Dangerous Game

In Richard Connell’s short story, “The Most Dangerous Game”, Rainsford had several obstacles, including having to find land by swimming through the darkness of the night. He was awoken by the sound of three gunshots, and as he sprung up on the rail, he tried to look through the midst of the night. Suddenly, his pipe was knocked from his mouth, and as he reached for it, he lost his balance and plunged into the ocean. He tried to call for help: “Desperately he struck out with strong strokes after the receding lights of the yacht, but he stopped before he had swum fifty feet” (Connell 3). Rainsford used his hunting skills to find the land by remembering where the gunshots had come from. He also made sure to stay calm to conserve his energy
