“The American Dream” can be stereotyped in many ways, some people see “The American Dream” as just being able to put food on the table. Others see it as having the most materials and the biggest toys. “The American Dream” is just someone setting a goal for themselves and achieving that goal. Whether it’s getting married and having kids, or being a surgeon and buying a lamborghini. Either way, there are still obstacles to achieving “The American Dream” such as growing up in a low income family, having little motivation for hard work, and not having a quality education. People that achieve “The American Dream” are very driven and determined. Such as Martin Luther King Jr. he wrote the “I Have A Dream” speech to let all African Americans have the same rights as white people, for blacks to achieve “The American Dream”. He says, “But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity” (Luther). Martin Luther King Jr. was very passionate and motivated to make a difference for lives of African Americans. This quote is saying that America has had a lot of obstacles, such as segregation, and African Americans have been discriminated too long and we need to put an end to it. To achieve “The American Dream” you have to be passionate and motivated as well. “The American Dream” doesn’t happen overnight, it will take lots of time, dedication, and determination.
