There comes a time in many people’s lives when they are in need of support; when life is disrupted on such a scale that rehabilitation is the only way forward. Everyone deserves the greatest quality of life and being able to complete occupations is something many individuals take for granted and would not appreciate the difficulties should they be restricted from conducting tasks, due to an impairment by disability or illness. I want the opportunity to make a difference to these people and make their lives meaningful again; to aid their progression from embodying their illness to feeling human once again.
I’ve always been a positive individual who gains pleasures in helping others and find it encourages me to see the progress and change in people’s life and personalities which may seem like a long journey at certain time of their lives. After meeting and speaking with several occupational therapists (OT) whilst doing work experience, I was certain that occupational therapy is a career suitable to my personality and capabilities. The diverse nature of the work and the effect I can have in helping individuals improve their quality of life.

Psychology has showed me how everyone has individual differences, how we can measure these and change people’s individual behaviour highest psychology grade for AS. From undertaking coursework and team activities, Travel and Tourism has allowed me to build on my collaboration with others, organization and deadline skills. It has also helped me take leading roles in organizing an educational trip for younger students. Mathematics has gained many transferable skills, including determination and perseverance, to permit myself to work through specific stages and problems to achieve an answer. I believe this mirrors the work of an OT whereby it is their job to encourage an individual’s personal persistence in order to reach their own
