My desire to help injured individuals lead more fulfilling lives without suffering motivates me to become an occupational therapist. Occupational Therapy is an innovating health field and gaining in prominence throughout the health community. The utilization of interpersonal communication and the engineering of creative problem solving in occupational therapy makes me want to become an occupational therapist. To me, a degree in Occupational Therapy will allow me to serve those who, like my family, sustain chronic illnesses. It was painstaking to watch my close relatives suffer without me being able to help and even though I could not be there for my family, I have the chance to make an impact now. John lost the tip of his middle finger during a sailing accident. He came into our outpatient clinic anxiously wishing to regain his motor function on his finger. Alison consulted with John and understood that his main goal was to play piano again. She trained his middle finger joint as it is important for piano players. I will never forget that one day when John was so excited to tell Alison that he was able to play a complete song on the piano with all his fingers again. Alison has developed an interpersonal connection with John and made him feel supported throughout his therapy sessions. I want to use my experience and education to find a work environment where I can continue to learn and fester my skills as an occupational therapist. I would like to work in a hand therapy clinic after graduation because I am intrigued by Alison’s interpersonal skills, and I found the delicate work and great knowledge of surgical technique that hand therapy requires very demanding and captivating. Ultimately, I would like to open my own practice and inspire my clients to never give up and help them regain their strength to perform daily functions that healthy individuals take for
