Introduction
I have been asked to explain the technology’s that are required in an e-commerce business. I am going to explain what technology are involved in these, hardware, software, networking, programing, internet speeds, domain names and registration and W3C.

Hardware
For e-commerce to work, you will need hardware, there are many types of hardware for example there is Input devices which consist of a keyboard which is needed to type letters, words, numbers, spaces between letters, symbols and shortcuts. An additional input device is a pointing device which is usually a mouse this enables you to move around the screen and click on items, buttons and programs, there are other types of pointing devices which are Graphics tablet, Joystick, Light pen, Pointing stick, Touchpad Touchscreen and Trackball all of these devices are similar and do the same intention. Another input device is a microphone which is used for transmitting a voice/sound through the computer system for instance a microphone may be used for talking to the customers for etc. technical support. Other input devices include image scanner which is a device that optically scans images, printed text, handwriting, or an object, and converts it to a digital image.
Output devices are needed as well in e-commerce this includes a monitor which is really important as its displays an electric visual display this is vital as if there was not a monitor you would not be able to see what your activity on the computer. Another Output device is a Printer which is electronic technology which uses ink to print on paper to print of word documents, images and web pages. Also another is a speaker which is required to enhance sound out loud, it is really necessary as many computer do not have speakers built in.
Some computers may need Removable data storage as they may not have been built in this includes an optical disk drive which using laser light to read data, there are two types of drives CD-RW and DVD-RW. CD-RW is a rewritable disk, which can be used for storing data on them. The DVD-RW is a format for rewritable DVDs which can hold up to a significant 4.7GB. A memory card is an electronic flash Data storage device which is used in Mp3 players, mobile phones such as blackberry’s, laptops, PC, digital cameras and games consoles.
A modern is a device that transmits data through either a telephone or cable lines to a computer. There are many different types of modems with different speeds for example BT fibre optic broadband modern has a download speed of 40meg on the other hand TalkTalk modem speed is up to 8meg. You will need broadband so customers can access the website. An ecommerce business would need very fast internet so they would need to use BT fibre optic broadband so the customers can download the webpage quicker, if the business was to use slow broadband like TalkTalk 8meg broadband this would impact on the business. In kissmetrics.com (online) ‘40% of people abandon a website that takes more than 3 seconds to load’ and also ‘If an e-commerce site is making $100,000 per day, a 1 second page delay could potentially cost you $2.5 million in lost sales every year.’ It would be more ethics to have much more fast website. A network card is a card a
Software
A server is a physical computer that is committed to run one or more services, as a host it serves many users that are connected to the network, businesses could use this for database server, file server, gaming server which can be online games for e.g. ‘world of war craft’, mail server, printer server and web server. You need a servers to host an website you will need them as they are used for security, ecommerce would benefit from a server as customers would expect that websites have servers as if they were purchasing items from your company they would expect security on their personal details.
