Odysseus And Telemachus Relationship

In The Odyssey, Homer portrays Telemachus as mournful. At the beginning of Chapter four, Telemachus arrives at Sparta in search of news of his father. He decides to ask the king, Menelaus, for any information regarding him. As Menelaus talks about how great of a soldier he was, and that it was a pity for to leave his wife and child, Telemachus starts to cry. Homer says, “Now hearing these things said, the boy’s heart rose in a long pang for his father, and he wept, holding his purple mantle with both hands before his eyes” (124-127). Menelaus and Helen then realize that this is the son of Odysseus, and immediately offer great care to him. This quote reveals that Odysseus does love and care about his father greatly even though he only was Odysseus
