In Book 17 Argos, Odysseus’ dog, is a manifestation of an individual who perfectly embodies the concept of loyalty in contrast with the fallible mindset of humans. The idea of naturally occurring links between things has emerged ,throughout the Odyssey. Links such as the connections between a father and his son as well as the relationship between a man and his dog. In the Odyssey, the dog specifically, has been a symbol for loyalty and obedience. Argos, perfectly exemplifies the idea of an unbreakable natural connection. He was left by Odysseus from the time he was a puppy, to until he was “half-dead from neglect”.
