To be a hero you have to have certain traits like, being intelligent, a good leader, and determined to do what you need to do. In the The Odyssey by Homer, one of the characters, odysseus is the hero in the Greek epic. One of the most important characteristics is that you need to be intelligent. Odysseus showed his intelligence after he got stuck in a cave with a huge cyclops. When the cyclops asks odysseus his name he said that his name was nohbdy. He decided to blind the cyclops with a spear made out of a small tree. His men stabbed the cyclops eye and the other cyclops heard the cyclops and came to see what was wrong. When they got there the cyclops told the other cyclopes that nobody was trying to hurt him and nobody was trying to kill him so the other cyclops left. …show more content…
He knew that he was the only one that was going to make it back home so he didn't tell his men so they would keep on going. He also saved his men twice. The first time he saved his men was when the men wanted to kill the cyclops and he stopped them because if the cyclops died they wouldn't be able to move the huge boulder that cover the entrance. The next time he saved them was when he made a plan of escape. They blinded the cyclops first so he couldn’t see.
