What is the definition of a hero? Someone who saves the kitten from the top branch? Someone who wears a cape and has super powers? Many people who think of the word “hero” think of just that. But in the Odyssey the main character can be considered a hero from his muscular build to his heroic charm. However people can argue both ways, some say his arrogance can outweigh all of his heroic characteristics. But to me that is not the case. But is Odysseus a hero? During the reading that really seemed to be an off and on debatable question. But truthfully he is, he escapes death and gets his men in a good position to live. But it wasn't his fault that didn't work out.

Odysseus in the Odyssey is a leader too! Without him, his men would be gonners with no chance to live. His leadership is shown in the story at many different spots, but is best on display when his men are on the Lotus eaters island and is put in a position to have to save his men. “ I drove them, all three wailing, to the ships, tied them down under their rowing benches” (Homer 1046). This shows his leadership and ability to scan the situation and come up with a great plan. His men had completely fallen for the lotus trap and had forgotten of their homes. But their leader was too wise to fall for the tricks so he saved them from being trapped there forever with no memory. Through the leadership of the situation it shows a glance of his heroic qualities, but that is for sure not the only time he shows off his

Even though some may think he isn't a good enough person to be a hero they are wrong. No one below a hero could conduct and be as good a leader of his men with his quick decision making or his ability to put up with their stupidity. With his muscular build and be as impressive on the battlefield. All together, he is a hero that many should look up to and aspire to
