In Homer's “The Odyssey” there is a courageous and quick-thinking character named Odysseus. Within’ “The Odyssey” Homer brings us on a journey with Odysseus, showing us his a long and treacherous journey to reunite with his beloved family and reclaim his kingdom. A similar story takes place in a film titled “O Brother Where Art Thou?” where you follow the story of an escaped prisoner named Ulysses Everett McGill and two other escapes named Delmar O’Donnell and Pete Hogwallop. Everett, similar to Odysseus, is on a journey to reclaim his family. Odysseus and Everett and clearly focused on their journey, they are constantly re-focus their companions to the task at hand in order to complete their journey. This can clearly be seen in Odysseus’ time spent at the land of the Lotus-Eaters where he urgently tries to get his men out and also where Everett ridicule Delmar when he baptizes himself in the lake to repent for his crimes. …show more content…
Homer takes you through Odysseus’ journey starting with the arrival of the crew and when the natives offer the crew members the lotus flower which in turn essentially makes the crew members high and because of this they lose interest in continuing the journey home with Odysseus. As soon as Odysseus realizes the effect the lotus has on his crew members he acts quickly to get his men back to the ship where he very literally ties his members down. His ability to turn down the lotus shows his incredible strength and commitment to stay true to his path, he turns down short-term pleasure in order to get home to his family and reclaim his
