Odysseus Is Not A Hero Analysis

In the epic poem Homer's Odyssey. The reason that Odysseus is where he is at now is because he was going to war. He was in war for 10 years. He got there trying to find his way home. Before he got home he was attacked by Cicons, Cyclops, Lotus eaters, Laestrygonians, Hades, Scylla, Circe, and then Sirens. Those are the people, things, or monsters that he had to face before he made it home. When he got home he had a lot more to deal with on his hands, with his family. Although Odysseus lost his crew, cheated on his wife, and got helped by others he did get home to his family and help get his wife back.

Odysseus with his choices does but doesn’t make him a hero. The reason I think that he could be a hero is because he did get home and kill all the men trying to marry his wife, and “won” back his wife’s heart. The men were in his house while he was out fighting to get back home and fighting in the war of Troy.

The way he lost his men in the beginning was when he went on the island of the cyclops. The reason he was there on the island was because he was curious, Polyphemus, the cyclop, who took Odysseus and his men in his cave, he also ate 6 of his men. So they stabbed the cyclops in the eye, the men escaped, leaving the cyclops wounded and with Odysseus’s name. Another thing that happened to his men was on the island of circe, his men got changed into pigs. And to get his men changed back from pigs back to men was by eating a flower. The flower made it to where he could not change into a pig. Once she realized he was able to not be turned into a pig she thought it was amazing so she slept with him and she changed his men back, Odysseus and his men stayed with her for a
