The prediction oracles are controversial because they are ambiguous. Kirkwood sees the oracles of ambiguity as predictions that are not made clear to the person affected. Oedipus’ oracle foretold that, “[he] would know my mother’s bed. . . and cause the death of my own father” (Sophocles 18-19). It said he would kill his father and bed his mother. The ambiguity of first oracle is that Oedipus did not know that the parents who raised him were not his real parents. These can also test of character of the person who is directly or indirectly affected by it. Oedipus spoke about how he, “trembled at [oracle’s] words and fled Corinth” (Sophocles 19). When he heard the oracle he felt that the only thing he could do to stop his oracle from coming truth was to run away. Hard determinism a type of incompatibles. Incompatible means that two things cannot live together in harmony. A hard determinist believes that free will and determinism are incompatible. Hard determinist believe that nobody never truly chooses anything they believe prior events cause certain decisions. In a determined world, there are absolutely no choices people can take. Those who believe in libertarianism think that hard determinism and free will cannot coexist. Libertarianism is also a type of incompatibles. Believe people are able to make radically free choices that are not caused by prior actions. Libertarian believes that choices are made by thinking and by instinct. A libertarian believes that every decision is made by a person deliberating of their own beliefs, desires, thoughts, and perceptions. In a free willed world, choices would be made by one’s instinct.
