Mentally Challenged or just Weak and Forgotten? Throughout the novel “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck centers one of the protagonists named Lennie, a mentally challenged, alongside with George are looking for jobs on the ranch to achieve their American dream, “Live off the fatta the lan’,”. Due to Lennie’s mental disabilities, has caused a lot of trouble at the ranch and most importantly leads to his tragic fate. Lennie’s character is portrayed as a mentally disabled that is treated less of a human, considered weak, and forgotten within the standards of Modern society.
Lennie throughout the novel has been mistreated inhumanely and less of a human making him an unsympathetic character, not to the reader but to the characters in the story.
