Lennie always worries about messing up because he won't be able to tend the rabbits which is his dream. Lennie knows that if he messes up and George finds out then he won't be able to tend the rabbits anymore. When he kills the pup he knows that George will be mad so he covers the pup up with hay so, that George won't see it and would never know he killed it. Then when Curley's wife comes in the barn and starts talking to Lennie he tells her that he can't talk to her because George told him not to and he would get in trouble and not be able to tend the rabbits anymore. On page 86 Lennie says “says I can't tend no rabbits if I talk to you or anything.” This quote shows that lennie knows that if he is caught talking to her by George then he won't be able to tend the rabbits. Throughout the story Lennie tends to forget everything and it is because of his disability.He remembers some things like how George talk about what his life would be like without him and what Candy says and crooks say to him.On page 6 Lennie says “I forget again”. This quote shows how even Lennie knows that he forgets most things. He says again so he has forgotten before.George also knows that he is forgetful,on page 5 he says “Think I’d let you carry your own work card”.
