Old Major is the animal version of Karl Marx, a revolutionary socialist in the 1917 Revolution. Old Major taught and introduced to the animals the idea of Animalism, a world where all animals live in freedom from the tyranny of their human masters, similarly Karl Marx invented Communism. Old Major stated that workers should work, the rich keep the money, and the animals should revolt. Karl Marx stated that workers around the world should come together as one and take over the government. Both Old Major and Karl Marx died before the revolution they inspired. Snowball, the pig who challenges Napoleon for control over the Animal Farm after the Rebellion, models Leon Trotsky. Like Leon Trotsky, who wanted to improve life for all the people in Russia, Snowball also wanted to make like better for all. Snowball was chased away by Napoleon’s dogs into exile, Trotsky too was chased away into exile by Lenin’s secret police. One of the battles that took place in the novella Animal Farm also parallels that of the Russian Revolution. The Battle of the Windmill replicates the U.S.S.
