Title: New song in the land Author: Fleur Beale The character that I have enjoyed reading about in the new song in the land by fleur beale is Atapo. Atapo is very brave and intelligiant and tecnious . I admired her because of the idea of the need of to develop personal strenght and courage . Atapo is a 13-14 year old moari girl, who came from a cheifs family. She is medium hieght, has long beauitful dark hair. And is knowin for her bravery and strength. Her dad (chief) was killed atapo and her family was kidnapped, and turned into slaves for another chief. Her beautiful mother passed away carrying the chiefs baby. Atapo's mother told atapo before she passed away ''you must leave my child you must go at once or death will too you as well'' we read about atapo being brave in novel when she escapes slavery by running away at night . This shows she is brave because she could of got caught by the horrible dogs or men who work the chief and got killed . I admired her being able to do this because if I was in her shoes I would be terrified to run away in the night in a storm knowing that my mum has passed way or is going to and leaving the rest of my family behind . Secondly I admired atapo because she was intelligiant, we read this in the novel when she was living at waimatie living with the pakeha family learning there ways.
