Statistics show that in the year 2016, the social networking site Facebook had over 197.7 million users in the United States alone. Facebook users in the United States have now increased to 202.82 with continued projected increases before the end of 2017. (Christakis, 2017) Data analysis from 2016 shows the average Facebook user spends about an hour on the site every day. As a current avid user of Facebook, Ted Sawchuck article “Relationships 2.0: Dating and Relating in the Internet Age.” was a current relatable article for modern-day singles.

The fourth drawback is a reminder that after ending a relationship online it is followed by a process of removing, deleting or blocking your ex-boyfriends or ex-girlfriends from all social platforms. I have seen this mistake made several times and how it can really disrupt the healing and moving forward in our dating process.

Facebook, in my opinion, should only be used as a reference for basic information on a potential love interest. This is because let be honest, we all want to project an image of what we share online. We use our favorite “selfies” for our profile, photos, use attractive wording in what is publicly posted, in-depth quotes about life and other eye-catching information relevant to how we want to project ourselves to the public. “Judging what you learn with our cross-referencing with the person is a recipe for misinterpreting disasters” (Sawchuck, 2014, para 2).
