Definition of Health Why is the definition of health important to health policy? "Health is important and essential not only to the physical and mental well-being of people but also to nations' economics. The United States is expected to spend more than $2.6 trillion in pursuit of health in 2010, which represents 17.7% of the nation's gross domestic product and to spend more than $4.3 trillion annually, or 20.3% of GDP, by 2018.
