Based on what we have read so far, Romeo and Juliet is a play of opposites because of how their love sprung from their hate. Since Juliet is a Capulet and Romeo is a Montague, they grew up hating each other’s houses. But they didn’t let that get in their way, they still saw each other and wanted to get married even if their houses still despised each other. A quote that supports this is when Juliet said,” My only love sprung from my only hate”. Another example is how Romeo and Juliet see the other as light in a surrounding darkness. There love symbolizes the light and the hate symbolizes the dark. Also, Romeo and Juliet describe each other using phrases that refer to light. Juliet reacted to the news of Romeo's banishment with forceful emotion, yet controlled expressions of grief. Juliet is a bit more rational, trying to come up with a plan for the future. In contrast, Romeo responds to his banishment with wailing hysteria and a failed suicide attempt.
