The concert I selected to view was the Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Orchestra, that performed on April 21, 2018. The orchestra was directed by Dr. Carol Nies, and the orchestra consisted of students studying at MTSU in different music programs and some faculty members. There were four songs played during the performance: Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major, Variation on an Original Theme Op. 36 IX Nimrod, Pirates of the Caribbean, and finally Symphony No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 36.
The first song played by the orchestra was Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major. This song originally has three parts; however, at this concert only one part was played and that was the third and final part the allegro molto. This piece has a cello player playing

36 IX Nimrod. This piece in comparison to the first is completely opposite. While the first song was fast and sporadic, the second song was calmer with a constant moods and melodies. The notes were longer and drawn out. It almost had this patriotic feel to it. When I first hear this song, it instantly made me think of the nation anthem, The Star Spangle Banner. While songs with more sporadic and surprising themes and moods are more like the songs I like to listen too, Nimrod was really enjoyable and a good change of pace from the first …show more content…
4 in F Minor, Op. 36. This song has four parts to it: Andante sostenuto, Andantino, Scherzo, and finally the Allegro con fuoco. The first part Andante sostenuto opened with horns and woodwinds. The music moved on from the opening into more large, slow chords. Then there would be parts were two short chords would play and then they would be followed by silence. I believe this symbolized something along the lines of lighting. Later the melody develops more rapidly. The second part started off with an introduction from what I believe was the oboe. This part seemed to have more of a climatic feel to it. In the third movement the strings played pizzicato thought out the movement. There was no percussion in this section. The finale movement sums up the whole piece. The coda is very vigorous and triumphant. It personally didn’t really enjoy this piece. It was just to long and it was hard to keep paying attention. However, it was a good
