In the film Oscar Romero, it was evident that Oscar was a very virtuous man. He demonstrated many great qualities that impacted many lives of Salvadorians and today is still honoured for his love, sense of distributive justice, and fortitude, which are just some of his many virtues he demonstrated throughout his life time. Out of many Oscar Romero's many great qualities, one that really stood out was virtue of charity and love. Through the movie, it was evident that Oscar put great importance on loving mankind, were they murderous, evil, or sinners, he loved everyone equally. Oscar fought strongly for the poor and the mistreated in El Salvador, his people referred to him as 'their voice' because he protected them and fought for their rights. Oscar seemed to have mostly paid his attention to the poor and vulnerable which was shown when a women whose husband was taken away told Oscar, "I heard your only sympathetic to the poor." and Oscar responded with "Not only to the poor, I must minister to everyone." (Duigan,1989) Oscar Romero was well aware of how the citizens of his town were being mistreated by taking away their rights to vote, to have a voice and even their personal boundaries were being violated by the soldiers raping and murdering them. The military and soldiers of El Salvador had a responsibility to take care of the needs and freedom of the citizens, however they started off by pretending to not let the civilians vote, for their protection but later on they violated their human rights by persecuting them and mass murdering the civilians. In the early times of his life before he became archbishop, Oscar was a soft-spoken priest with little intention to create a scene. Although it was evident he was disturbed by the way the soldiers were abusing the people of his country, he preferred to stay behind silent and let others fight back. This is because his whole life he was taught by the way of books, he had the knowledge from books and was not much of a preacher. Oscar Romeo was then given the title of archbishop because the government believe he would stay quiet, until he grew angrier due to mass killings, the death of his fellow priests, and the repression of civilians. During a conversation with a friend Oscar Romero said, "Someone has to have the courage to say enough." (Duigan,1989) at this time Oscar as aware someone had to speak up to put in an end to the violence but he felt he himself was not able to. Until he began coming face to face to the military while the civilians called him "their voice" Oscar Romero began building up the courage to stand up to the soldiers. Where ever there were scenes of mistreating the people from El Salvador, he would be there yelling to the soldiers.
