During the Salvadoran civil war Oscar Romero was appointed Archbishop, many people doubted his powers and beliefs. Oscar Romero’s teachings from the 1970’s are still relevant today because we still have the same issue in today’s society. Romero was appointed in 1977, he was quiet when he first became archbishop. When Oscar found out the country was run by the military he quickly spoke out against it. Oscar Romero’s words were inspiring and he always turned the other cheek and told all of god’s children to turn the other cheek as well.

We can use Romero as a guide for our life that God has planned for us. By following what God wants us to do can lead us doing something you wouldn’t ever do but with the grace of God anything is possible. The simple act of respecting others goes a long way, because in some countries Women, Disabled, african american, culture, and religion are all disrespected and treated like dirt which Oscar tried to change in El Salvador. Oscar Romero was known for being a voice for those who did not have one, I think this is the biggest lesson that has affected me. So many cannot voice their opinion either because of where they live or because of their gender, because of their sexuality, or because of their skin colour and it’s unfair. Oscar Romero has also taught us how to accept all people and that we should practice kindness.Without all of these lessons that we can interpret into our lifestyles the world wouldn’t be as it is now.
