Your client is a 15 year old male who has sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI). He sustained his injury in a motor vehicle accident (MVA) in which he was a restrained (wearing a seatbelt) front-seat passenger in a vehicle which was struck on the passenger side by another vehicle. Since I would allow him to return to school, I would educate him and the teacher about ways to return to the parasympathetic state. I would teach him deep breathing techniques, advise him to step out of class for a few minutes when he is feeling stressed, and recommend placing his seat in a quiet area of the classroom. If he were constantly stressed, then he may reach his allostatic load, which would result in increased cortisol levels.
