Immigration is a big problem in the world. It is a huge roadblock in people trying to achieve their dreams. In the short story, poem, and autobiography, “The Trip” by Laila Lalami, “Exile” by Julia Alvarez, and “Outlaw: My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant” by Jose Antonio Vargas. Each author tackles in the topic of life as an Immigrant. All three works have a similar theme; despite all of the challenges, it is important to take risks, be brave, persevere, and to have determination to achieve one’s dreams or goals.

He demonstrates perseverance by him never giving up on his dreams. “The more I did it, the more I felt like an imposter, the more guilt I carried. But I kept doing it.” (Page 4). Jose Antonio Vargas was an immigrant, he felt like he didn’t belong. With that in mind, he never gave up pursuing his dreams. He also gave up running from the problems he had. “ I’m done running, I’m exhausted, I don’t want that life anymore.” (Page 11). He was done trying to avoid his immigration problem. He was brave to open up to the word about it even though what people think of him. “Outlaw: My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant” by Jose Antonio Vargas, shows the importance of braveness and perseverance in life as a whole.
Overall, roadblocks in life are very hard to overcome like immigration. It is really important to take risks, be determined, to persevere, and to be brave when you want to achieve your goals. These traits are really important to society because they can help solve problems in life. In “The Trip”, “Exile”, and “Outlaw: My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant”; Laila Lalami, Julia Alvarez, and Jose Antonio Vargas, showed themselves or a character going through immigration problems in their lives.
