You are entitled to use a print, general language dictionary in your examination if English is not your first language. You may not use an electronic dictionary or a subject-specific dictionary. However, there are a number of important points to note with regard to student conduct.

You are not permitted to bring notes into an examination with you; this includes ANY notes or annotations inside a dictionary that is in your possession. If you are found to have notes or annotations in a dictionary (or elsewhere) in the examination room, regardless of whether or not they are relevant, used or consulted, you will be reported to the Senate Office under the University’s Code of Student Conduct.

Penalties levied by the Assessors for Student Conduct for such offences typically include a mark of zero for the examination with no opportunity to resit. This could have the consequence that you will not qualify for your degree.

Please read each point carefully and tick the box to confirm you have read and understood it.
