Overcoming Failure In High School

I think failure is the opportunity to begin again, to grow as a student, and to learn from our mistakes. A time I experienced failure was when I flunked a math class in my first freshman semester in 2012. When I failed the class, I felt lousy because I knew I could do better. I learned to work harder and to be more responsible. When I started my first of four years at Streator High School, I completely ignored my grade school teacher, Mr. Fruland’s weekly warnings to the class about what would happen in high school if we were to not turn in our assignments. While disregarding their advice, my laziness and lack of responsibility got the best of me and I had ended up failing a math class without any idea of consequences. Not the best way to a new start in a new school. My semester report card came in the mail in mid December 2012. My mother was the first to read it and was completely disappointed in me. As many teachers here at Streator High School will tell students, senior year is supposed to be the most challenging, not the easiest. For many, senior year has been everything but difficult. For me, however, senior year is definitely a challenge. Originally I was supposed to only be in a Geometry class, which is typically a sophomore and junior class. At the beginning of the year I made a decision that I would take two Algebra classes, even though I had enough Algebra credits to graduate without it. I am currently in Geometry, which tends to be difficult from time to time. I am also enrolled in Advanced Algebra, which is coincidentally taught by Mr. Schlund, the same teacher whose class I failed my freshman year. I know that I have a lot more to prove of myself to him, and I plan on checking that goal off of my list this year as
