Overcoming Grief In Mark Twain's The Call Of The Wild

When you lose something or someone, you have to persevere in order to overcome the grief. In the book The Call of the Wild, Buck had to experience John Thornton dying from being attacked by the Yeehats. As much as Buck had to persevere when John Thornton died, my grandma went through the same thing when her sister died from terminal ovarian cancer. While Buck and my grandma both lost someone in different ways, they both dealt with it and had to persevere. Overall, both humans and dogs have to persevere through loss and hard times.
In The Call of the Wild, John Thornton was killed and Buck had to overcome his death, so he returned to the wild. This started when the Yeehats attacked John’s camp and killed him. Buck attempted to save John, according to the book, “He sprang at the foremost man (it was the chief of the

One of the many things they have in common was helping others. In the book, Buck managed to save John from the guy at the bar, and from drowning in the river. In addition to Buck’s heroic acts, my grandma also helped her family in the few days leading up to her sister's death. She unsuccessfully attempted to help Debbie overcome the cancer, even though she had already distinguished that there was no cure for it. Supplementary to helping others, they also were helped by others. In The Call of the Wild, the wolves invited Buck into the wild and he accepted, therefore the wolf pack helped Buck move on from drowning in melancholy. In similarity, my grandma overcame her sister dying when she was around the rest of her family. When she was around them, she tried to appear brave and worriless which soon expanded to become the truth. Through this process, my grandma grew braver by making her appear to be that way around others. In both cases, my grandma and Buck had to learn new things to overcome losing people to whom they were
