In the unit Overcoming Obstacles we read "Homeless to Harvard" and "No Excuses", These two stories fit into the theme because they tell the stories of how each person overcame different struggles in their lives.

"Homeless to Harvard" fits the theme of "Overcoming Obstacles", because it told of the obstacles that Liz Murray faced in her life and showed how she overcame them and did something with her life.. When Liz was growing up she didn't have the best life. Her parent's were drug addicts who weren't responsible enough to properly take care of their children. By the time Liz was a teenager, she decided that she had had enough. She packed her bags and left. She didn't want to follow in her mothers footsteps, so she decided that she would continue her education. After all of this Liz's life finally started to turn around. She met some amazing people who helped her. She had impressed colleges by making good grades even though she was homeless. Soon enough she was a college graduate from Harvard. She has since became an inspiration to others, if she can make it out so cant hem. Liz's life was a great demonstration of overcoming obstacles

When Kyle Maynard was growing up, he knew that he was different. Kyle was born with a congenital disorder. Kyle had shorter limbs than most people. Kyle also had a passion for sports. His parents wanted him to be as normal as he could, so they let him play them instead of preventing him. Kyle's parents were very support of him. Kyle had played his first year of sports and only won one game. Despite Kyle not winning that year, he preserved and trained harder than ever. That next year Kyle went on to when all of the games.
