Overcoming Obstacles In Sonia Sotomayor's Life

Sonia Sotomayor is a Puerto Rican with uncommon life experienced and the first Latina woman who had nominated to serve as a judge on the US supreme court by President Obama( Lacayo, 2009). Unlike contemporaries, Sonia has an uncommon experience of life that pushes her through the hard time; she grew up in an isolated neighborhood with a plenty of violence going on, suffered from diabetes and lost her father in her early age, but she didn’t get knocked out by these obstacles instead of she has used them to shape her ability to overcome weaknesses. Moreover, she earned her bachelor degree at Princeton University under prevalence of racial discrimination circumstance after graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School, then she earned her J.D. from Yale Law School in 1979, when there is no one believes minority will make such unexpectedly successful life ( Lacayo, 2009), but Sonia proved that can be possible with her hard work and greatly dedication. …show more content…
Sonia recounts “If I needed to have shots every day for the rest of my life, the only way I’d survive was to do it myself. ” (Sotomayor, 2013, page 4). It is a challenge to a young kid who has the type 1 diabetes to deal with it, but in order to do it, she has to sterilize the needles with boiled water in everyday, since her parent evaded responsibility of who should giving her insulin injection. Moreover, She has to maintain her blood sugar in a constantly level due to lower level of blood sugar results in one loss of consciousness and give individual an inconvenience
